Overview
A series of six 985-ton destroyers was ordered by China from Germany in 1913. Their predecessors, the V-1 type torpedo boats, showed unsatisfactory seaworthiness, so the new project received increased displacement and enhanced armament. Due to the start of World War I, the destroyers were requisitioned and enlisted in the German fleet. V-25 was built at the AG Vulcan Stettin shipyard. With the start of hostilities, the ship was assigned to the Baltic Coastal Defense Division. In October 1914, the ship was part of the 17th Half-Flotilla of the 9th Flotilla of the High Seas Fleet. In February 1915, five destroyers of the 9th Flotilla set out on a combat mission to cover minesweeping off the North Sea coast. V-25 did not return from the sortie. Later, its wreckage was found near Heligoland: presumably, the destroyer hit a British mine.
