Overview

In the late 1930s and early 1940s, Germany developed several draft designs for aircraft-carrying ships for the war against Great Britain. One such sketch was a project for a small aircraft carrier intended for serial construction during wartime. The main idea was economy and the possibility of mass production at civilian shipyards. The project itself dates to mid-1942, but under wartime conditions, the construction of such a ship could not have been completed before 1944. According to the understanding of German specialists, the flight deck length had to be at least 170 m, with take-offs still expected to require catapults.
