Overview
A cruiser named Surrey was initially meant to be the third Norfolk-class ship. But it was the fourth series of cruisers scheduled for construction as part of the 1928 program that eventually received that name. Unlike their predecessors, these ships had proper belt armor and were supposed to enter service inĀ 1932. In the lead-up to the London Naval Conference, the laying down of ships was suspended and later canceled due to the changing priorities of the British Navy.
