Overview
The lead ship of a class of six destroyers built by the British company Thornycroft for the Chilean Navy, with half the ships configured for minelaying and the others for minesweeping. Due to their relatively weak hull construction, they were unable to operate in the rough seas off southern Chile. In their later life, four ships of the class, including Serrano, were refitted as destroyer escorts. Serrano was decommissioned in 1962.
