Overview
On November 27, 1942, an order was given to sink the remaining ships in Toulon to prevent them from being captured by Germany. Among the destroyed ships there were battleships, cruisers, and destroyers, including five of the six GuƩpard-class ships. Four of these ships were raised from the sea floor by Italy. It was assumed that they would become a part of the Italian Navy after repairs, but those plans were not implemented.
