Overview
The cruiser Seydlitz, of the Admiral Hipper class, was built in Bremen, but with the start of World War II, work slowed down. In June 1942, at 95% readiness, construction was halted: after the attack on Pearl Harbor, the need to build aircraft-carrying ships became clear. The nearly completed cruiser was designated for conversion into an aircraft carrier and renamed Weser. Work began in December 1942, but ceased after six months, and the ship was towed to Königsberg. In January 1945, the hull of the aircraft carrier was scuttled.
