The USS Guest, a Fletcher-class destroyer, was built in Boston. In the spring and summer of 1942, the ship participated in escorting Atlantic convoys, and in the fall, it was transferred to the Pacific Ocean, where it took part in the invasion of Bougainville. In 1944, Guest participated in the Mariana Islands campaign, supported the landing on Guam, and in 1945, fought at Iwo Jima and escorted aircraft carriers. In June 1946, the ship was decommissioned and placed in reserve at the San Diego base. In June 1959, the ship was transferred to Brazil, where it was renamed Pará. The ship remained in active service until 1979 and was later used as a target tug and target ship. In February 1983, the destroyer was sunk by the submarine Ceará during torpedo firing exercises.
